Corporate Voices for Working Families Releases Employer Guide to Help Employees Take Advantage of Tax Credits and Other Benefits

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 1, 2010) -- Corporate Voices for Working Families, a nonprofit business membership organization in Washington, D.C., has released its 2009 Employer Guide: Educate Your Employees About the Benefits They’ve Earned. This is the seventh year that Corporate Voices has updated the Employer Guide and made it available to companies and other organizations as a way to help low-wage employees take advantage of a host of benefits available to them. The guide provides detailed information about the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Medicaid and other benefits.

2009 EITC Toolkit (January 2010)

Corporate Voices for Working Families has released its 2009 Employer Guide, which provides companies with the tools to help employees take advantage of tax credits and other benefits. EITC Adjustments in American Recovery & Reinvestment Act

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed into law in February adjusted various tax benefits, including some contained in our 2008 EITC toolkit. You will find the EITC expansion, along with the Child Tax Credit increase, in this document.

Stored Value Cards

One way to help your employees avoid refund anticipation loans, check cashers, and other high-priced predatory refund products is through stored value cards. A stored value card can deliver the speed and convenience of an electronically filed/direct deposit refund for employees without a bankaccount. Sometimes called “prepaid debit cards,” stored value cards may be branded by Visa or MasterCard.

Corporate Voices for Working Families Endorses Proposed Legislation To Expand EITC Education

WASHINGTON (June 25, 2008) -- Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) proposed legislation today to educate employees about the availability of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Under this proposal, employers would notify their employees that they may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit. The notification would occur annually on the employee’s W-2 form.
