NEW! 2010 Best of Congress Questionnaire
The Best of Congress Awards spotlights Members of Congress for supporting working families through their advocacy of legislation and the demonstration of their own commitment to establishing family-friendly practices for staff members. The Best of Congress Award serves to honor the positive contributions of Senate and House Members, from both sides of the aisle, who advance policies and programs in support of working families and recognize their importance to the business bottom line.
Criteria and Evaluation
- Voting record on legislation during the current session of Congress that improve or expand opportunities for working families
- Assessment of individual advocacy efforts in and out of Congress to advance policy that supports working families
- Family-friendly office policies available to Member’s personal staff
The questionnaire, criteria and selection processed are developed and approved by Corporate Voices, Working Mother Media and a bipartisan Best of Congress Steering Committee. The Steering Committee focuses on lawmakers' efforts to advance economically sound policies that support and create opportunities for working families.

A Best of Congress directory was created to highlight each winner. Each winning Member of Congress is featured in the booklet, along with a brief description of legislation and policies they have supported while in office. The directory also outlines each winners own office policy, which serves as a reference guide to incoming freshman leaders as they work to build a balance of work and life among their new Capitol Hill staff. In fact, Jason Linde, Chief of Staff to Rep. Bill Foster (D-IL), contacted us:
“My boss won his special election in March of last year and subsequently faced the voters again in November. After winning again, I was able to sit down with the Congressman and use your guide to help us develop, what I believe to be, an outstanding benefits package for our young team.”
